Masters Student
Kate (she/her) is Inuk from Kuujjuaq with ties to Kangiqtiniq from the Adams family on her fathers side and Irish/Scottish on her mothers side. Kate is VIDEA’s Manager of Indigenous Governance and Decolonial Practices. Kate’s background is in Indigenous Family Support Work and is now completed her degree in Justice Studies at Royal Roads University where she was awarded the Lt. Governor’s Medal for Inclusion, Democracy & Reconciliation. Now, Kate is doing a Masters of Geography at the University of Victoria. Her research is centring Indigenous youth in traditional knowledge and governance of land and water in Tanzania. Kate is passionate decolonizing education and integrating Indigenous knowledge systems and perspectives into spaces to create meaningful relationships and change. In her spare time she and her best friend host a podcast Spilling Labrador Tea Under Cedar Trees where they discuss everything from their favourite movies to global Indigenous movements.
