Paige Deedman

Honours Student

Paige is an undergraduate student at the University of Victoria completing a BA in Geography with a concentration in Community Engagement, a minor in Global Development Studies, and a certificate in Spanish Language and Cultural Proficiency. Bridging her interests in sustainable development and Indigenous cultural revitalisation, Paige aims to integrate community-based participatory research with arts and storytelling approaches to support creative envisioning for a sustainable world. Paige is an alumna of the Trent in Ghana program and was a participant of UVic’s Agroecology field school in Belize, as well as the Tanzania Conservation and Community Development field school. With her interdisciplinary academic background and experience in community-engaged initiatives in the Global South, Paige brings an asset-oriented approach to her work, grounded in community, socio-ecological relationships, and post-colonial theory. Her Honours research explores how cocoa farming is connected to the lives, culture, and environment of agricultural communities in Ghana, one of the world’s largest cocoa-producing countries. She is interested in how diverse cultural and spiritual dimensions of land stewardship—which are often overlooked in corporate and environmental assessments—might support more sustainable farming practices.
