Sid Boegman-Watt

Research Associate

Sid is a Research Associate with the University of Victoria’s Environmental Governance Group. His current research explores the impact of domestic chocolate production in cacao origin countries through a case study of Vanuatu. A Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada Graduate Research Award (2023) and Mitacs Accelerate Award (2022) recipient, Sid brings an interdisciplinary approach to his research, prioritizing collaboration with community partners to promote action-oriented knowledge. His 2024 Master’s thesis, Crafting Geographies: Digital Placemaking in the Craft Chocolate Industry, critiqued the role of digital media in constructing perceptions of place across global supply chains. Informed by his previous work in the organic and natural food sector, his research interests include producer-consumer relationships, global food systems, and moral markets.
