Ximena Peralta Minutti

Masters Student

Ximena Peralta Minutti is an MSc International student in Geography at the University of Victoria (UVic). She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, graduating cum laude from Universidad de las Américas Puebla in Mexico. Her research focuses on environmental governance and conservation, with particular attention to the evaluation of government reforestation programs in Mexico: Sembrando Vida (“Sowing Life”). She examines the socio-ecological dimensions and perceived socio-economic impacts of these large-scale programs, as well as the role of local initiatives such as community nurseries in adapting national policies to diverse local contexts.

Ximena has extensive field experience, including marine and terrestrial monitoring, species identification in cloud forests, and community-based restoration projects. She was selected for the MITACS Globalink Research Internship at UVic in 2024, where she gained research experience in marine bioacoustics. She has also collaborated on projects related to institutional capacity in conservation programs. Her academic path is motivated by a commitment to bridging science and governance to address climate change and socio-environmental challenges in Latin America.
